Sonne, Kasper
As with much of my work, the starting point is my profound interest in exploring
dichotomies. These paintings are painted using a roller instead of a brush, in order to
first make a perfect monochrome painting. Then they’re set on fire. This action
directly negates the former and throwing water on the flames then concludes the
painting. In turn it ends up full of testimonies of its own creation, from the meltdown of
the paint, the ashes of the cremated canvas, traces of water and my fingerprints
from handling the entire process. Thus control is contrasted by chance, perfect by
imperfect.
