Not only doesn't Chen Ke read comics, she has no affinity to animation; yet her cartoon-ish painting style has made her one the representative painters of this generation ever since the "Next Station: Cartoon?" exhibition.

Almost every one of Chen Ke's paintings features a button- nosed girl; she is depressed, introverted, living naïve existence in this illusory, otherworldly space. For Chen Ke, inverting reality gives her a true sense of reality, and seeing the worried little girl in her paintings, viewers are suddenly infected with a sense of sentimentality.

With You I Will Never Feel Lonely is the large-scale installation piece that exposed Chen Ke's newest style of painting; on classic, average household furniture from the 1980s, she paints the little girl in on patches of paint applied directly to their surface. Perhaps somewhere between the traces of her dripping paints and the image of the little girl, Chen Ke expresses her real state of mind.

Chen Ke never ceases in her search for new mediums on which to wield her brush; In new 2008 works, her canvases even resemble handicrafts. On ready-made cloth, she mixes intermediary and traditional oil paints together. This sorrowful little girl continues to appear on all sorts of materials, she's real, she's a dream, her endless loneliness drawing in viewers, and making it difficult for them to extract themselves.

Chen Ke possesses all the qualities of a young female artist, she loves to swim and to read, and is a true astrology buff––sometimes even her works can't help but sink into this mystical atmosphere. Chen Ke projects herself into her art, and says that if even one day passes without painting, she is enveloped with a feeling of emptiness. She likes to challenge and out-do herself, because in her opinion, this nature of accomplishment is more real, even better than struggling to maintain a constant state.
